Glenfarne Station House, part of the old Sligo, Leitrim and Northern Counties Railway will open to the public from the 1st August to the 30th of September 2009.

The station house has been brilliantly restored by Francis and Ann White.

Vistors can see the original waiting room, ladies waiting room, Ticket office and toilet. There is a display of old photos, posters and timetables. Outside the Platform and old Signal box are visible.

Glenfarne Station opened in 1880, It was the local station for Sir Arthur Loftus Tottenham of Glenfarne Hall who was one of the main promoters of the railway and who acted as the main contractor during the building. For 77 years the Railway was part of the economic and social fabric of the area. Many families had relations who worked on the railway and for a great many others Glenfarne Station was their last sight of family and friends as they left Glenfarne for the USA and elsewhere.

When the Great Northern Railway closed in 1957, the Sligo Leitrim could not operate and it too was forced to close in September 1957.
