1985 Mayoral Election

1986 Mayoral Election Candidates

The above “election flyer described the four candidates who took part in the successful 1985 Glenfarne Mayoral Election. The Mayoral Election Campaign was organised by the local GAA Park Committee and Club to raise funds to help complete work on the Park Development. The Committee wish to express their sincere thanks to the four candidates and their very many helpers who in the short space of seven weeks raised between them the outstanding sum of £6,200. At the function in the Rainbow Centre, Glenfarne when the winner was announced, Seamus 0’Rourke, Chairman of Park Committee presented each of the candidates with a Belleek China GAA Vase and a set of Galway Crystal Glasses for their wives and girlfriends. The Committee are deeply indebted to Mr. Phelim Byrne NT, St. Michaels N.S. who gave up a weekend of his holidays to collect and check all the money involved and declare the winner. It may be of interest to note that Mr. Byrne was the only person who knows the individual amounts collected by each of the candidates. The mayoral candidates were Seamus McDermott, Oliver Fitzpatrick, Thomas Clancy, and Gerry Keaney.
