It’s all systems go for The Glenfarne Gala 2008. The Festival Committee has decided to change the format for the tug-of-war on Sports Day, with the competition being confined to Glenfarne, with four teams in the parish. The names of the teams and coaches are as follows:

Team One- Rainbow Warriors – Coach: Seamus McLoughlin: Seamus has set up his training camp behind The Rainbow and says part of his training strategy will be Ballroom Dancing. Seamus says when his team start going back on the rope the fancy footwork will come in handy.

Team Two- Blackrock Lads – Coach: Pat Slevin. Pat has set up his training camp at a location unknown on Camderry Mountain. Pat has appointed a fitness guru and says cholesterol checks and strict diets will be the order of the day.

Team Three – St Mary’s – Coach: Damien Maguire. Damien has put a lot of thought into his selection of the location of his training camp at the foot of Thure Mountain. Coach Maguire says when these boys are finished bagging turf in the evenings; it will be straight to the training camp.

Team Four- St Michael’s- Coach: Felix McHugh. Felix tells me his training base will be at Thompson’s Cross and has been recruiting his team over the last two weeks. Rumour has it that he has picked up new talent over on the auld road. Last word from Felix McHugh is that there is going to be a complete media blackout from his team.
