1982 U-12’s meet Sam Maguire
August 10th, 2006 by admin
Glenfarne’s U-12 team were rewarded for winning the U-12 League, Division 2, by the presence of Seán Lowry, the Offaly star and the Sam Maguire Cup. This was their night and they enjoyed it and we hope the parents and everybody else present enjoyed it too.
It was a great honour for the team to be presented with their medals by an All-Ireland medal holder, and in his address to the boys Seán Lowry told them that with the proper dedication to training they in the future could help bring an All-Ireland to their native county.
Seán also said that only for their complete dedication to training that Offaly would not have beaten Kerry in the final.
Seamus McDermott in his address paid tribute to the lads for bringing the first Juvenile trophy to the club, and hoped that they would continue to bring further honours to the club in future years. He thanked the parents for their co-operation, and especially the ladies who provided everybody with a meal. He thanked Seán Lowry and also Fr. Cox who was responsible for getting Seán and “Sam” to Glenfarne, and wished them luck in this year’s All-Ireland; also our thanks to the musicians who provided the music, and Fr. McKiernan for the use of the hall.
The Chairman then presented Seán Lowry and Fr. Cox with plaques as a memento of their visit to Glenfarne. Seán presented the medals to the following: players and substitutes:-
Thomas McManus (Capt.), Michael McManus, Gerry McLauqhlin. Peter Byrne, Michael McLaughlin, Clement McGuire, John McMorrow, Kevin Keaney, Mark Cullen, Seán Darcy, David Fee, Michael McManus, Fergus Burns, John Keaney, Brian McGourty, Oliver McManus, Patrick Flynn, John Flynn, Seamus Murray, Kevin McManus, John McManus, Paul Cullen, Packie McGovern and Joseph Maguire.
The night concluded with the team having their photograph taken with Seán Lowry and the Sam Maguire Cup.
