Wednesday 1st February 5.30pm-7pm Meditation: Taster Session €8, Course of 4 sessions – €30

Wednesday 8th February – 7.30pm-9.30pm: Mind Maters Support Group. This is a support group for people who are interested in supporting a positive mental health issues or have experience mental health problems or want to understand more about them.

Thursday 9th February 7.30pm-9.30pm: GROW One of Irelands largest Mental Health Organisations are delivering a Four week education programme on different aspects of mental health. Week 1– Understanding your Mental Health. Week 2 – Stress Management Techniques, Coping skills and strategies for dealing with conflict in our lives. Week 3 – Suicide, Breavement and Loss. Week 4 – Alcohol and Substance misuse.

Monday 13th February 7.30pm-9.30pm: Happy Talk, Happy Tales. Creative Writing Course. This Course will take place every second Monday.

The Bard from the Barrs

“Glenfarne’s Hidden Treasure – The Bard from Barrs” is a sample of twelve poems that have been recorded on CD by the late John James Hudie. John James was born and reared on the side of Barrs Mountain in 1922 in the townland of West Barrs. He had been writing poems since 1940. He would write about happenings in Glenfarne and surrounding areas. He would also write about events that occurred around Ireland and on the world stage. One of John James’s most famous poems was a poem about John F Kennedy, President of the United States of America. John James sent this poem to the Kennedy family when the president was assassinated and he received a thank you letter from Kennedy’s wife Jackie.

John James died in October 2002 the same week his CD of poems was launched.

Proposed History of Glenfarne Parish book

The first meeting to organise a team to write the History of Glenfarne took place in Cullentragh Centre on Wednesday, 18^th January. It was a most encouraging meeting and was well-attended. Many people who could not come indicated their desire to help and support the project. It was unanimously agreed at the meeting that the project was a very worthwhile one and should go ahead. We include a list of the many areas of parish life that we hope the history can deal with. Some additional areas have been added since the meeting.
