Upper Lough MacNean is an excellent coarse fishing lake. The lake contains Bream, Roach, Hybrids, Pike, Perch and Eels. A small stock of Brown Trout is also present. There is little or no walking involved and the water at Glenfarne Forest can be fished almost out of the car. The lake is really consistent and has a reputation for fishing well in flood. Recent improvements (carried out by local voluntary effort) including a fishing stand adapted to the needs of disabled anglers make this an ideal venture for anglers with limited mobility.

Hi Markf
Could you send me the directions to the fishing spots you have spoken about if coming from Enniskillen please.
Cheers,
Dave
Hi Dave – thanks for visiting!
Shortly after you pass Clancy’s of Glenfarne’s restaurant, you will see the Rainbow Centre – at that point take a right towards Kiltyclogher – following the sign for Glenfarne Demense/Forest. The entrance to the Demense is no more than a few hundred yards from the Rainbow.
Continue through the forestry road and when the road splits in two, take a right and that will lead you right down to the lake.
I believe there are plenty of good spots on the river before it enters the lake. Hopefully some of the locals would be able to better inform you of these exact locations.
Mark.
Go right at Rainbow, and right again just before graveyard at the cottage. There is a map here at cottage. You can go to the boat quay and take a right over to the mouth of the river, there are plenty of spots there that are common to pike fishers, no trout at all really.
You could also take a left either before boat quay and (tree in midddle of junction) turn left towards ladies rest, the road will bring you over along the lake, there are plenty of spots along the road – locals have the stones marked over here which should help, keep going along lake and you will come to some fishing decks. Basically you can park along the road and fish the other side, easy access big time. Hope this is of help.
Thanks for the info guys. I fished Macnean a couple of years ago but didnt see any stands as such only natural bank. There is a disabled person with us so stands would be ideal.
A party of 4 of us are looking to come over mid Sept. Can you recommend any where to stop – hotel or b&b and within walking distance of a pub or 2 too?
How is Macnean tackled for the best results for coarse fish? I fished groundbait feeder with moderate success – compared to the Erne at the time anyway. Does it respond well to the pole?
Dave
There is a place to stay in Glenfarne, Clancy’s. (Shop, Restaurant, B&B; +353719853123)
The is a country bar (McHughs) across the road from Clancy’s.
The village of Glenfarne is a 10min walk away, Ketties bar & lounge.
